Mobile devices as a popular computing platform for enterprise systems have enabled certain tasks to be executed out of office.However,the work may be interrupted due to the server shutdown or network disconnection when employees access traditional single-engine Business Process Management System.To overcome this defect,we present a lightweight twin-engine architecture based on Service Oriented Architecture(SOA).In this paper,we discuss in detail the design and implementation of the architecture,and present a trigger mechanism to activate engines according to the states of hybrid environments since it is critical for the two types of engines to cooperate closely in hybrid environments with fixed and mobile computing resources.The experimental results validate the usability of the architecture.
A large proportion of Internet of Things (IoT) applications are internally publish/subscribe in nature,and traditional architecture cannot support them efficiently and flexibly.In essence,supporting efficient publish/subscribe systems requires data-oriented naming and efficient multicast.Since deployment of native IP-based multicast has failed,overlay-based multicast has become the practical choice.Since load balancing between heterogeneous nodes is an important issue,designing an optimal load balancing overlay network for publish/subscribe systems is a necessary endeavor.This study focuses on the optimal load balancing overlay design problem for topic-based publish/subscribe systems in a heterogeneous environment (in terms of node processing power,bandwidth,and reachability).The Minimum Idle Degree (MID) model is introduced to capture the heterogeneity of overlay nodes.Based on the MID model,new node load measures are defined that can accommodate heterogeneous server capacities and capture the node load in publish/subscribe systems more accurately than traditional measures.A new optimization problem,Maximum Minimum Idle Degree Topic-Connected Overlay (MMID-TCO),is established.This problem is NP-complete and a constant approximation algorithm does not exist for this problem (unless P=NP).Based on MID metrics,the Maximum Minimum Idle Degree Overlay Design Algorithm (MMID-ODA),which has polynomial time,is introduced.To improve performance,an approach that breaks down the problem into several small-scale problems by exploiting the potential inherent disjoint characteristic in the subscription table is presented.Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is able to achieve better load balance than Min-Max-ODA in a heterogeneous environment.
With the growing popularity of data-intensive services on the Internet, the traditional process-centric model for business process meets challenges due to the lack of abilities to describe data semantics and dependencies, resulting in the inflexibility of the design and implement for the processes. This paper proposes a novel data-aware business process model which is able to describe both explicit control flow and implicit data flow. Data model with dependencies which are formulated by Linear-time Temporal Logic(LTL) is presented, and their satisfiability is validated by an automaton-based model checking algorithm. Data dependencies are fully considered in modeling phase, which helps to improve the efficiency and reliability of programming during developing phase. Finally, a prototype system based on j BPM for data-aware workflow is designed using such model, and has been deployed to Beijing Kingfore heating management system to validate the flexibility, efficacy and convenience of our approach for massive coding and large-scale system management in reality.
Many specified business needs in enterprise context cannot be effectively satisfied using current business process technology.This phenomenon is called the "long tail" of business processes.In addition,more and more business applications need to be accessed from mobile devices such as smartphones by enterprise end users.This paper attempts to solve both two challenges above.A lightweight event-driven process model is proposed aiming at satisfying the spontaneous business needs in enterprise.And we design an innovative wizard,which works like a tutorial,guiding end users in creating this lightweight process model.Moreover,end users are allowed to interact with the process created by themselves on smartphones.Finally,the usability of our approach was evaluated on a small set of users in a real business scenario.The results show that end users can effectively build their personalized business processes using our approach and interact with them in mobile environment.
