Dispersion polymerization of acrylic acid was successfully carried out in aqueous ammonium sulfate media at 30 ℃.The polymerization behavior with varying concentrations of stabilizer, ammonium persulfate, and ammonium sulfate were investigated.Polydisperse spherical particles were formed in the system. The particle sizes increase first, then decrease with the increase of the initiator concentration. The increase of the stabilizer concentration resulted in a decrease in particle size and an increase in the intrinsic viscosity. The results show that the reaction conditions for the stable dispersion polymer are as follows: the mass fractions are 0.64%-1.92% for the stabilizer, and 24%-31% for the salt respectively.
