It intends to picture the challenges in teaching English for Traditional Chinese Medical Purposes(ETCMP) in medical schools and stresses the necessity of cultivating qualified ETCMP teachers with the booming of Traditional Chinese medicine in and outside of China. A number of measures are suggested to be taken for ETCMP teachers' development so as to meet the increasing needs of ETCMP education in the future.
In this article,the authors design a speaking unit based on needs analysis following Hutchinson and Waters'(1987) model.First,the rationale in designing this unit is introduced,which involves the teaching approach adopted and relevant theories in organizing the materials.Then,the teaching plan of this speaking unit is provided and some activities are designed to create an authentic and optimal situation for students to practice their speaking skill.
In this article,some new developments in the field of applied linguistics are summarized.In addition,it is illustrated that researchers’epistemology determines their methodology.And their research conclusions are also led by their epistemology.It is proposed that a critical,bio-social paradigm be taken in the field of applied linguistics.
