The present paper first reviewed the major concepts and practices involves in research. A small study was conducted to survey on the prevailing research questions and methods in ELT studies in China, showing a major paradigm shift from qualitative studies to quantitative research and mixed methods, with little critical research identified.
Communication cross cultures is becoming more and more frequent and extensive.In our case,cross-cultural communication refers to that between English and Chinese-both in culture and language.Due to different traditions,cultures,social mentality,there exist vast differences between English and Chinese.This paper,based on a large number of convincing examples and from the angle of cultural analysis,explores the differences and similarities of the metaphorical meaning of animal words between the English and Chinese languages in order to account for the cultural connotation and its interaction with translation.
