In 2001,the kiln site of the Han Dynasty at Shifeng Village was excavated. The shape of the kilns in this site was very special, which were arranged in north-south direction, and two kilns shared one operation pit. These two kilns were pit-shaped mold-baking kilns. Kiln Y1 was not used for long time, and the construction of Y2 was not completed. In addition to the bricks, tiles and potteries in various types, large amounts of slag, fragments of crucibles and pottery molds and other relics related to foundry were recovered in the kiln site; among them, the pottery molds for casting iron Wuzhu coins were popular, and hexagonal and circular struts were also seen. The remains and unearthed artifacts showed that these kilns were constructed in the late Western Han Dynasty, and they were private workshops rather than official kilns.
The Gongjiawan site, about 1200m2, locates at Chafang township of Danfeng county. According to the stratigraphical deposits and the characteristics of the cultural relics,Gongjiawan site can be mainly divided into three phases. The first phase is Yangshao Culture. The second is early period of Longshan Culture, which is discovered in the uper reaches of Danjing River for the first time, the discovery fills an important gap in developing alignment of archaeological cultures in this region. The third belongs to the middle-late era of the Western Zhou, which is different from that of the corresponding period of Guanzhong district, while is closed to that of Chu culture of the corresponding period of Hubei Province. The discovery is important for us to explore the distribution of Chu culture and cultural rela- tion between Western Zhou and Chu at that time.
Dongyin site of the Upper Erligang period(early Shang),locates at Dongyin village, about 7. 5km south to Xiaxian town. For understanding the content and the nature of this site, especially for rescue purpose,we did a surveying and an excavation of 170m2 in Feb: 2000. Despite of various potteries and stones,a large of raw bone of the Upper Erligang period were found. These materials are important for our research on the procedure of bone artifact making and the nature of the site. The result of survey- ing of several time and one excavation of this site are reported in this paper.
