Shakespeare is one of the most prominent drama writers all over the world. His masterpiece displays vivid, delicate and profound humanity. Richard Ⅲ and Macbeth as the main heroes in his two tragedies of the same theme, share quite a lot of similarities and differences, yet resulting in sharply different readers'response to their fates. The comparative study on these two characters is aimed at helping readers better understand the two tragedies.
Herzog is one of Saul Bellow's most successful novels,which laid a solid foundation for his winning the Oscar Award of Literature.This paper is intended to prove Herzog is a bridge between Modernism and Postmodernism by comparative study on the thematic and formal transformation of the whole novel based on textual analysis and Gerald Genette's narratology theories.
