Hanhunao tombs and kilns are situated 13 kilometers southeast to Shuangta village,Anxi county, Gansu province.In order to cooperate the project of land exploitation and migrants settlement around Shule River, Gansu Provincial Institute of Archaeology made a rescue excavation to the twenty-one tombs and two kilns in the field from July to September in 2001. Two kinds of tomb,brick-chambered grave and earth catacomb were unearthed.The brick-chambered tombs consist of earth barrow,tomb-passage,screen wall ,corridor and chamber. The screen wall is built of carved bricks in imitation of wooden structural members. The anterior and rear rooms contain the tomb-owner and grave goods for cooking use respectively.Besides 277 copper coins,among the 103 funeral objects pottery constitutes the major part and the reat include goldware, silverware,stoneware,bronze and iron objects.The unearthed tombs and kilns are dated early period of Caowei.
